Are PSA tests not worth the risk in checking for prostate cancer? is it worth getting a psa test or not? Until recently this was a no brainer. Every man over the age of 50 was strongly encouraged to get a psa test in case there was a high psa count or there was a rapid increase in psa. Recently there has been a change in thinking now that the numbers have been crunched.

In a controversial finding that will affect at least 44 million American men, a government task force published its final recommendations against regular psa tests for prostate cancer screening, concluding that the harms of the simple blood test far outweigh any potential benefit.

There seems to be incredible confusion around psa testing and there seems no definitive answers. To test or not to test. I was tested for psa and because the readings went quite high I ended up with multiple biopsies. They all showed no cancer. On the one hand it is good to be on the safe side, on the other hand there has been an trauma to my prostate all for no purpose.
